Whether it’s due to family events, holidays, winter weather, emotional blahs, kids’ busy schedule, working late etc, the list for skipping workouts goes on and on forever. The problem is, skipping those workouts catches up to your health and progress overall a little faster than you may think. Here’s CNN’s take on what happens when you skip out on the gym.
No matter how dedicated you are to fitness, sooner or later, it’s going to happen: You’re going to skip a workout … and another … and another. Maybe you can blame the weather, a vacation, a mile-high pile of paperwork at the office or just your run-of-the-mill funk. Whatever the reason, before you know it, you’re out of shape.
Neglecting the gym every once in a while is nothing to worry about — after all, sometimes your body needs to rest and recover. But when you hit pause on your workouts for more than a week, you might actually be throwing your fitness level into rewind.

How fast will you fall out of shape?

You worked hard to get fit, whether by logging regular runs or striving for new personal bests in your bench press. When your workouts fall by the wayside, how fast you fall out of shape depends on more than just how much time you spent away from the gym. Your overall fitness and the type of workout you’re missing will also impact your losses, says Dr. James Ting, a board-certified sports medicine physician with the Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, California.
As a general rule, the fitter you are, the longer it will take your muscles to turn to flab, he says. Your physique doesn’t like change; it’s constantly trying to achieve homeostasis. So the longer you have been exercising (and the fitter you are), the more time it will take for your body to say, “Well, I guess we don’t need to build muscle any more.”
If it’s only been a week since you broke a sweat, don’t stress. Whatever your workout history, it’ll take more than seven days for your body to soften. But two weeks? You might not get away with that as easily. One study in the Journal of Applied Physiology suggests that easing up on your workouts for just 14 days can significantly reduce your cardiovascular fitness, lean muscle mass and insulin sensitivity. Meanwhile, it can take two months or longer to see complete losses of your fitness gains, according to Ting.

Endurance vs. strength: Which will you lose?

Your body will react differently depending on whether you’re skipping endurance exercise versus strength training, says exercise physiologist and trainer Marta Montenegro.
That’s because your muscles contain both type I (slow-twitch) and type II (fast-twitch) muscle fibers. Type I fibers contribute to endurance performance. Type II fibers are more powerful, and their “fast-twitch” capabilities help you power through high-intensity exercise or strength training.
During your day-to-day activities (like walking, talking, sitting at a desk, etc.), your type I fibers are contributing to the bulk of your efforts. But you really have to work to get your type II fibers to switch into gear. So when you take a break from exercise, your type I fibers are likely still being used, helping to prevent them from breaking down. But some of your type II, fast-twitch fibers may be rarely, if ever, used if you aren’t working out, Montenegro says.
That may explain why type II fibers tend to atrophy more quickly than type I fibers, she says. In other words, your max bench press will suffer before your 10K time does when you’re slacking. If you’re taking a break from strength work or high-intensity intervals, you’ll notice a huge difference when you finally do go back to the gym.
Endurance athletes aren’t entirely out of the woods, though. When you perform regular cardio, your type II muscle fibers gradually change from type IIx to type IIa, Montenegro explains. Type IIa fibers are key to endurance performance: They are powerful, but don’t tucker out as quickly as IIx ones, meaning they can help power your long runs. When you take a break from your long runs and rides, this essentially reverses, and your percentage of type IIa fibers decreases, while your IIx fibers increase, she says. So prepare to tire out way faster.

Breaks aren’t all bad

Before we terrify you into heading to the gym right now, know that it’s actually good for you to skip workouts from time to time. In fact, if you train hard, taking a break can actually help improve your strength, muscle development and aerobic fitness, says certified strength and conditioning specialist Brad Schoenfeld, assistant editor-in-chief of the Strength and Conditioning Journal.
Days off can also improve your mental fitness. “Your body and mind both need time to recover for overall health and in order to achieve optimal performance,” says Ting. “Failing to recognize this and training too hard can lead to fatigue and, ironically, underperformance, the so-called overtraining syndrome.”
If you’re sore more than 72 hours after a workout, you’re feeling ill, or your fitness progress is stalling, it may be time to back off. How long should your break last? “There’s no hard and fast rule for how long a ‘break’ from exercise should be,” Ting says. “It may be as short as a few days, but it’s important to realize as well that it can also be up to one to two weeks without any significant detriment or loss in previous fitness gains.”
Just remember that taking a break from exercise doesn’t (and shouldn’t) equate to gluing your butt to the couch and Netflix-binging. “Taking up some light activity that isn’t part of your typical training regimen, such as yoga or even a long walk or leisurely bike ride, can all constitute a ‘break,'” Ting says.

How to jump back into your workouts

Depending on how long you took off — and how lazy you were — you might not want to jump back into your workouts, but rather ease into them. If you’ve taken more than a couple of weeks off, you’ll probably notice some differences. After a month or more, you’ll definitely want to get started with a less intense version of your regular workout, Ting says.
“The most important thing is to back off a little for the first week,” Schoenfeld says. “Choose a weight where you will be able to stop several reps short of failure on your sets. The following week you should be able to train at your previous level, assuming the reason for stopping wasn’t an illness or injury.” Meanwhile, if you’re getting back into running, start at a pace at which you can run comfortably and are able to speak in short sentences. After a week, try turning up the speed.
It can be frustrating to exercise at anything less than your max effort, sure, but gradual is the way to go to prevent injury. The last thing you want is to walk into the gym after a month off, try to squat your usual load, and throw out your back. (Hello, another month off.)
Luckily, when it comes to getting back into your pre-break shape, you do have muscle memory working for you, Schoenfeld says. There are two aspects to muscle memory. One involves your ability to carry out movements in a coordinated fashion. Wonder why your first rep on the bench press looked so sloppy? It’s because your body was learning which muscle fibers it needed to recruit, and which ones it didn’t, to properly perform the exercise.
Then second component of muscle memory involves your cells. “Muscles have satellite cells — basically muscle stem cells — that help to drive protein synthesis. Resistance training increases satellite cells and these changes remain for years,” he explains. “So even if muscle is lost from taking time away for many years, a person can regain the lost muscle much more quickly after an extended layoff.” Score.
Exactly how long it takes will vary from person to person, but by and large, you can expect to be back in fighting shape in a few weeks.

My 30 Day Results with the Performance Line

When I started Performance I had never tried any sort of supplement before.  I had done so much already for myself from losing weight, to gaining lots of muscle and tone.  I just had one more goal to accomplish and that was to get a 6 pack.  I knew that I needed to try Performance for that.  I decided to use the entire line.  I had read up on the entire line and new that this was to be used with intense workouts only.  I also had been told that if you do the creatine be prepared to bloat.  So I took all of that into consideration when ordering.  The intense workouts were not a problem for me because intense was always me.  I love intense workouts and I don’t expect anything less from myself.  I just hope that several years down the road as I age I can still keep the intensity going.  I get up daily at 4:30am and mix up energize and hydrate.  I drink energize while I am getting dressed to workout.  Of course I drink hydrate during my workout.  Energize scoops are based on your weight.  1 scoop if you are 150 and under and 2 scoops if you are above.  I use one scoop and here that some people who do more than that get a tingling sensation that they are not real comfortable with.  They do end up backing off a little bit to help.  Hydrate is based on your length of your workout.  I use 1 scoop because I mostly do 30 minute workouts.  I drink ½ of it the first half of my workout and then the other ½ the second half of my workout.  Here is a video of myself after the first morning of using energize and hydrate.  In my first day I had already noticed a difference in my performance and hydration.  After my workout I drink my post recovery workout and add in the 1 scoop of creatine.  Then about an hour before I go to bed and when I am lying in bed with my daughter I drink the nighttime.  I stuck to this for 30 days and am still using as of this date.  I was more than impressed with my results.  I was getting exactly was I was looking for.  Every day I noticed that I could last longer and do more reps.  They say that recovery is supposed to take away a lot of the soreness and help you recover faster and that may be.  I am sore every day and I owe that to pushing myself more daily.  I am sure that without recovery I would not be able to walk.  I did not experience any bloating with using the creatine and that was because of the intensity in my workouts.  You won’t see this as long as you stick to higher intensity workouts.  Now of course it is very important to eat the right amount of food and the right foods daily to get your best results.  That I have done and I know that has played another key role in my results with my ABS..  AS you know “ABS are made in the kitchen”.  My only down fall in this 30 days was I do have a bit of a sweet tooth for gummy bears and smarties.  I don’t overdo it, but know they don’t help.  I have set a new goal in the next 30 days to not do any gummy bears or smarties.  So far so good I am on day 8 and still going strong.  It is difficult because I do see them every day.  But I am determined to see what better results I can bring to my ABS in the next 30 days without them.  I have my first fitness pictures coming up and I want to look my best.  For somebody that has never tried any sort of supplements and trying them for the first time.  I do have to recommend the Performance Line to anyone that wants that extra push and wants faster results.  Because there is no doubt in my mind that you will get them with this line.  For more information or if you are interested in ordering just click on the performance line picture on this page.

I have realized that I have never posted the September sales, but for good reason. I know you all get tired of seeing these workouts pics or sale prices so I was going to let it go. But the more I think about it, I need to. MOMENT OF TRUTH....... PIYO PIYO PIYO so I bought PIYO when I signed on as a coach because it was the new program coming out at the time. I really could not get myself to do the program because I was never ready to slow down. I was to into intense workouts and THOUGHT that PIYO was going to be to slow for me. I finally took PIYO out of the package for fit club a few months back and WOW. We were all soaking wet and sore in places that you would never have thought you would have been sore in after doing intense workouts every day. This program is the bomb and though it is a little slower but effective paced and not jumping and tearing on your joints it still will bring you awesome results. You will lose several inches and so much more. So if you are looking for a slower paced workout but still do the job of losing and strengthening then this is the program for you. For more information click on the link above.

I had never tried eggplant until today and man I did not know what I was missing.  It was delicious and I can’t wait to make it again.  Super easy and super cheap.

First you will need eggplant washed and rinsed.  Then you will need to cut the eggplant in quarter inch slices.  Lay them on a piece of tin foil and sprinkle salt over top of them to draw the water out.
21 day fix approved, eggplant parmesan, healthy recipes, janell wilson
Next pour your Italian style bread crumbs in one bowl and your egg whites in another bowl.

Pre heat your oven to 350 degrees and grease your cookie sheet with a little olive oil.

Then blot the standing water from the eggplant with a paper towel.  Now it’s time to prepare your eggplant.  Dip each piece individually into the egg whites and then the Italian bread crumbs evenly around.  Place them each on your greased cookie sheet.  Put in the oven for about 15 minutes or till tender.

While they are in the oven place your Italian tomato sauce in a sauce pan and begin to heat.

Bring eggplant out of the oven and pour some sauce over eggplant.  Sprinkle some mozzarella cheese on top and pop it back in the oven. Only long enough to melt the cheese.

Take out of the oven and get ready to taste an awesome meal.

Kids Muffin Tin Pot Pie

Kids Muffin Tin Pot Pie

Compliments of Janell Wilson

Look at how easy it can be to get the kids involved in some good healthy cooking.  What kid/adult does not like Pot Pie.  I know we love it!!!!!  So here is a quick and easy way to involve your family..

Step 1:  Roll out your crescent dough.  Parents you can make it ahead of time with this crescent roll recipe.  Use a 3-inch cookie cutter to make round shapes.  Lay the round dough shapes in the muffin pan and press along the bottom & sides.
No cookie cutter?  You can use the open part of a cup of empty can.  Spray the Bottom of the pan with olive oil unless you are using a non-stick pan.

Step 2: Mix cream of chicken soup with 1 cup of cubed chicken and 1 cup of mixed vegetables in a bowl.  The great thingis that you can use whatever veggies you want.  You can chop your own, or use frozen when you are in a pinch!  Add salt and pepper to taste.  To make your own cream of chicken soup, try the recipe below……

Cream of Chicken Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
TBSP flour
3 TBSP butter
½ cup chicken broth
½ cup milk
Directions:
Melt the butter in a small sauce pan over medium-low heat.  When melted, whisk in the flour and continue whisking until smooth and bubbly, making a roux.  Remove from the heat and slowly whisk in the chicken broth and milk.  Return to the heat and bring to a gentle boil, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens.  Add salt and pepper to taste.
This recipe equals one 14.5 oz can of cream of chicken soup.
Step 3: Spoon the filling mix into the cups.
Be careful not to over fill as it will bubble while in the oven…1-2 spoonfuls should be enough.

Step 4: Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.  Let cool on cookie sheet for 3-5 minutes then serve!!!!!

My Summit Experience 2015

Wow I still can't believe that over 2 weeks has gone by since my first Beachbody Summit. It still feels like it was just the other day. For a year now I have been hearing stories about Summit and listening to the Monday morning wake up calls. It seemed like every coach I heard speak on the wake up call said that summit was their AHA moment. Well now I can see why!!!!! I wish I could explain the feeling that came over me at opening ceremony and closing ceremony. It was like I wanted to cry but my heart was beating out of my chest because I wanted to be that person that walked across that stage or even stood on that stage. Then it turned into I am going to walk across that stage or stand on that stage next year summit 2016. I listened to Melanie Mitro, Lindsay Matway and several other top coaches say that they started where I started and in just 4 or 5 years they are now top coaches or elite.
They make it all real and make it possible for me to say that I will be there. You have a dream for yourself and your team by helping others with there fitness and nutritional goals. What more can I say my team and I do this because we love what we do by keeping up with our fitness and nutritional goals and most importantly helping the people that need us most. So I speak of goals for myself but I have big goals for my team, Team Believers as well. I have taken away so much from my summit experience and the work shops I attended. With this I will build Team Believers and offer them the same experience and the entire notebook full of notes that I have brought home with me. I listened to some pretty amazing men and women during the days spent at summit. Each one of them start where we start and each one of them have a pretty amazing story to tell. Not only do they share there personal stories but they share what has worked for them as a coach.

I had the pleasure to attend Melanie Mitro's class on How to create a marketing strategy for your business with over a 1,000 other determined coaches. Each speaker from each workshop and each speaker at all the events I was able to pick up a little information from each one of them. Some of them hit close to home and could no have been any more perfect for me. I met so many new friends and can't wait to meet up with them at next summit or sooner. Some of which we shared stories with and some we made plans to meet at the same location at the same time next year to share our stories and what we accomplished during the year. One person I connected with I know that some day I will be sharing my story and he will be part of that story. Just the day before I attended a workshop that talked about how important everyone story was and everyone had one you just had to put it into motion and figure out how you were going to tell it.

I walked away telling my friends that it was important for me to find my story or better yet find how I was going to tell it. Then the next day I was talking to a complete stranger who I had just met while in intermission. Near the end of our conversation he told me “I hope you are journaling this and said no really I hope you are writing all of this down that you are telling me. Because your story is so different and unlike any other story I have heard before.” I took that to heart and was in amazement afterward. I realized then that I did have a story and it was different from any one that I have heard at summit. Next year summit is going to rock and I am so excited that some of my team is going to be there with me to share these incredible moments that they too will never forget. I would like to share some of the awesome pictures of everything we did while in Nashville, Tennessee.

Our first morning at summit we were up bright and early to get a good spot in line for the opening of Core. Core is where you can go and shop for some of the newest clothing and products that you have not seen on line yet. We were amazed by the line already when we got there, but when the doors opened we were right where we needed to be to get a good spot into Core. Needless to say we all spent some money but with the discount you get as coach it is well worth it and the clothing was pretty amazing too. The new products that were released at summit (Cize, Boost and the Perfomance Line) were all available for us to purchase first.

Then it was time to check in and receive all of our wrist bands and name badges to get us through the next few days.

Then from there we were off to our first live workout with none other than the man Shaun T and T25. I love all of his programs but nothing compared to the intensity of his live workout.

We rushed back to our rooms to get ready for a picture with the Bombshell Dynasty team members which we thought for sure we were not going to make it too. But we did and we were early. We got the chance to see a pretty amazing team that we are part of and see Lindsay Matway.

We also got a chance to meet Scotty Hobbs which was pretty great because I had learned and watched many of his you tube videos. From there we went to LP Field for the opening ceremony. Man was it hot and we could not wait for the sun to go down.

That was my first experience with how Beachbody makes you feel like you are part of an amazing business and that EVERY ONE MATTERS (the theme this year).

Friday morning was no different we were up bright and early again to join Chalene Johnson in another live workout. Chalene was real as well and I was proud to be able to stand in front of her and bring my sweat on live instead of my living room. She inspires me every day through fitness and personal development.

After the workout we were starved and decided it was Shakeology time and why not try the new boost with it. We sure needed it after that workout.

Next was our class with Melanie Mitro and then general sessions. At General Sessions and workshops we were able to hear from CEO Carl Deikler, celebrity trainers Janelle Summers, Chalene Johnson, Daren Olien and Isabelle Deikler the creators of shakeology. At each of the workshops we listened to several top coaches who share how they make there business work from day to day. So when I say I brought home a notebook full of notes, I DID. Friday us girls went out to eat an amazing place that I love to go to and could not wait to share it with them.

Then we partook in some bars on Broadway where I met a number of great coaches that I can't wait to meet up with next year.

We did not stay out long cause it was going to be an even earlier morning to get a good spot on Broadway for the Super Workout with all of the celebrity trainers. (Sagi, Tony Horton, Autumn Calabrese, Chalene Johnson and Shaun T) On our way back to our room we had heard that gates were going to open at 3am and we were only a few short hours away from that. There was no way we could get there at that time, but we got up and headed that way not knowing what to expect and where we would be at on Broadway. Knowing that more than 20,000 coaches were there to do the same thing we were.

We made out well and were close to the stage. We loved it after seeing how many people were behind us we made out great being on 2nd Avenue. The super workout was over an hour long and we all were feeling it with the heat. But it was well worth the experience no matter how tired we were. Then it was off to workshops again to hear some amazing people speak. After workshops I went and picked up Delaney for closing ceremony and was so happy that she was there with me.

I am certain that she truly enjoyed being there with me. Closing ceremony was pretty amazing from recognizing the millionaires club, to financial freedom club, the 100,000 dollar winner and the top coach presentation of Melanie Mitro. Delaney's most memoriable moment was seeing Chalene Johnson from Turbo Fire. She tells everyone all about it. As we were leaving closing ceremony she said that she wished she could meet Shaun T and I promised her that one of these times she will get that chance to meet him face to face.

Then it was off to Broadway again for the after party celebration. I had seen Broadway several times in my past, but nothing like what I had seen this week in Nashville. I was said it was over and glad I was there with a pretty amazing group of women. We all purchased our tickets for next year Summit to be held in Nashville again 2016 and happy to hear that some of my own team coaches will be joining me next years. Team Believers is looking up and we are going to do some pretty amazing things this year and we will be recognized for it at Summit next year.

If YOU want to become a coach on Team Believers and be a part of an amazing team fill out the form below. You are on your way to making your dreams and others dreams come true.
